EY = Mizzen boom
length
|
Distance from the back side of the mizzen mast to the black band at the
end of the mizzen boom.

PY = Mizzen mast length
|
Distance from the top of the mizzen
boom to the black band at the top of the mizzen mast.

E = Main boom length
|
Distance from the back side of the main
mast to the black band at the end of the main boom.
|
|
P = Main mast length
|
Distance from the top of the main boom to
the black band at the top of the main mast.

I = Deck to mast length
|
Distance from the deck to the
intersection of the forestay and and mast.
|
|
J = Forestay to mast length
|
Distance from the forestay at the
deck to the mast at the deck.

Sail Terms

A = Head
|
The top corner of a sail is referred to as the Head.
|
|
B = Clew
|
The trailing aftercorner of a sail is referred to as the Clew.
|
|
C = Tack
|
The lower leading corner of a sail is referred to as the Tack.
|
|
D = Luff
|
The leading edge of a sail is referred to as the
Luff.
|
|
E = Foot
|
The lower edge of a sail is referred to as the Foot.
|

F = Leech
|
The trailing edge of a sail is referred to as the Leech.
|
|
G = Batten Pockets
|
Sewn perpendicular to the Leech, Batten Pockets house battens
which keep the Leech flat.
|
|
H = Roach
|
The extra material between the straight vertical line in the picture
and the Leech is referred to as the sail's Roach. It gives extra drive to the sail when
running or reaching.
