Karl
Kuspa is the newest member to the Detroit sales team. Karl has
more then 25 years of sailing experience. He grew up sailing
Flying Scots at the Edison Boat Club. Karl graduated from Eastern
Michigan University with a degree in Environmental Science. During
his summers, he worked as the Head JR. Sailing Instructor at NSSC.
Towards the end of his college career, Karl took a job as the
Captain on Gene Mondry’s International 50 Leading Edge. Karl
worked on this boat, as well as Gene’s 1D 48, for six years.
After leaving Leading Edge, Karl started his own Marine business
doing rigging, diving, and boat transport; which he still operates
today. Karl has been involved in many successful race programs
over the years, and they include: Ricochet (2 Ton) , Fast Tango
(Santana 35 & Mumm 36, Leading Edge (International 50 & 1D
48), Trim , Detour (J105), Natalie J (NM 46).
Karl has always kept a busy racing schedule, usually racing at least 100 races per year. The last year an exceptionally busy one for Karl. His race schedule included: Key West Race Week, Miami Race Week, 1D 35, Beneteau 36.7, and J35 Nationals, J 35 Great Lake Championships, Charleston Race Week, Yacht Club Challenge (Newport Beach), Detroit, Chicago, San Diego, and Toronto NOODS, Port Huron and Chicago Macs. Karl is now partners on a J 35 called Scandal, which will be doing a limited schedule during the summer, so he looks forward to the opportunity to get out sailing with other boats in the Doyle family.
