Doyle
Detroit is the Midwest Optimist dealer. We carry a full line of Optimist
parts and the world famous McLaughlin Optimist. According to Doyle Detroit's Al
Declercq, “The
decision to promote the Optimist class in the Midwest was a natural. Doyle Detroit has a long tradition of supporting junior sailing. Doyle
Detroit is quickly earning a reputation as one of the top sailmakers in the class. We are able to supply boats, rigs, blades and accessories along with the BEST OPTIMIST SAILS in the world". Ricardo Vocaturo heads up our Optimist sail design team.
Ricardo’s designs have won numerous championships, including the 2006 South Atlantic Championship. Agustin De Trapaga finished first in the Gold Fleet with his Doyle Detroit Optimist sail at the Optimist South Atlantic Championship in Mar del Plata, Argentina. The fleets included participants from South America, United States, Europe and China. There were two Opti fleets – Gold and Silver. The Gold Fleet consisted of 100 boats. Agustin used medium and heavy designed sails manufactured by Doyle Detroit. In New Zealand, Doyle sails have won the New Zealand Winter Championships, North Islands, Sir Peter Blake and Sail Auckland. In 2006, 4 out of 5 sailors who qualified for the world team used Doyle sails.
