High Modulus Twaron
Clear UV Film
w/ Single Taffeta

Price: $ 7,735

The Class main is specified using the D4 process with High Modulus Twaron. The sail is manufactured utilizing a taffeta and clear UV film for the ultimate durability. The UV film reduces the exposed light, which can lead to fiber breakdown. Because Class rules state the mainsail has to last for at least two years, this sail will provide the ultimate in durability and shape holding.

The fibers used offer incredible thread line strength and efficiency, essential to handle the high leech loads of a large mainsail. The D4 layout is superior to any other process. Additional fibers can be placed in any area of the sail for added strength.

Since the mainsail on the Farr 395 OD must cover a very broad range, its ability to be powered up or bladed out is critical. The backstay is the primary control for this function, and it will need to be adjusted frequently.

Given the size of the foretriangle and the Class rules, the race jib is called on to fill a very broad performance range. The race jib is manufactured using 100% HM Twaron. Additional yarns are placed in the leech area to add additional strength. UV films are also used for increased durability.

There is no question that this sail is used in all of the large regattas and extensively throughout the racing season. Removable battens are incorporated in all the jibs to facilitate transporting the sails. In addition, this sail is built to the Class maximum girth.

The furling jib does take a lot of abuse. On this particular sail we recommend the TRT process with taffetas on both sides Without battens, this sail is easy to pack and use when sailing short handed.

Given the high strength to weight efficiency of the available fibers and our ability to manipulate designed shape through head stay tension, this sail will cover the required range. This sail is constructed from 100% Pentex. The Pentex fibers accommodate the loads while keeping weight down.

If it is decided to leave this sail on the furling system for an extended time a lightweight UV sun cover or sock can be added

Fabrics:
1502 Meter Contender Dynalite
1202 Meter Contender Superkote

1502 Meter Max Code 1: This sail is used for downwind legs in most conditions. The Contender Dynalite has a silicone coating on it, which makes it very slippery. This sail slides past the headstay and stays dry. It is also the lightest fabric available for Class rules.

1202 Meter AP Code 2: This sail is used frequently in any distance races when reaching and heavy air running. This sail is also the choice for any short handed sailing. The Superkote 5 is the fabric of choice since it has added strength. This sail is very effective in heavy running and reaching conditions.
