J/105 Shooting Star Wins 1st Place Overall at 2011 Sperry Top-Sider Marblehead NOOD Regatta

2011 Marblehead NOOD

Congratulations to Bill Lynn and the crew of the J/105 Shooting Star for winning the J/105 class in the 2011 Sperry Top-Sider Marblehead NOOD Regatta and being named the Overall Winner of the Sperry Top-Sider Marblehead NOOD Regatta, winning the event’s top prize, a trip to the British Virgin Islands. The Overall winners from each of the Sperry Top-Sider NOOD Regattas will complete in the Sperry Top-Sider NOOD Championship Regatta in the British Virgin Islands in November, courtesy of Sunsail.

When Laurie Willard realized he was unable to skipper his J/105 Shooting Star for the Marblehead NOOD, he asked Bill Lynn to skipper. With Bill Lynn at the helm, the Shooting Star crew included Ben Willard (Laurie’s son), Matt Contorchick and his wife, Catherine Sullivan, Chris Hufstader, and Hannah Lynn (Bill’s daughter). After 6 races with one throw out, Shooting Star edged out Got Qi? by one
point to win the class and go on to be named the Overall Winner of the 2011 Sperry Top-Sider Marblehead NOOD. Shooting Star was powered by all Doyle sails.

A total of ten classes and 169 entrants competed in the Marblehead NOOD held July 28-31, 2011 by the Corinthian Yacht Club. Doyle customers dominated the regatta, winning eight classes. George Spiecker’s Airtha won the Alerion 28 class. Wade Edwards’ Riva won the Etchells class, with Ethan Doyle finishing 3rd. In the IOD fleet, Doyle customer Bruce Dyson’s Gypsy dominated the fleet to win by an 11-point margin. Ken Deyett’s Jeroboam won the J/30 class. Bill Lynn won the J/105 class. Doyle powered customers swept the Rhodes 19 fleet, with Pete Kaznoski and Evan Cooke’s Sundance, Chris Small’s Swing Room and Kim Pandapas’ Mo Hotta Mo Betta finishing 1-2-3. Doyle’s Tomas Hornos won the Sonar fleet, while Bart Snow’s NOLO won the Town Class.
