Thornburrow Dominates Etchells Queensland State Championship

Thornburrow Dominates Etchells Queensland State ChampionshipSouthport Yacht Club in Queensland, Australia hosted the 2012 International Etchells Class Queensland State Championship November 24-25 with 19 competitors sailing in perfect conditions.

International sailor Mark Thornburrow from Hong Kong and his team on Racer X finished consistently in the top 2 to win the 6 race series with a total of only 8 points. Mark uses a new Doyle AP main, NLM-5 jib, DCM jib, DCH-6 jib and crosscut VMG and heavy full radial runner spinnakers.

Bucky Smith from Doyle Queensland sailed with Mark and commented on the sails, “The AP mainsail is awesome, cloth is perfect, luff curve matched the mast very nice. For jibs, we used the DCM in 5 of the 6 races – this sail is very special, it was 6-12 knots and a bit bumpy the whole time, very fast. We used the DCH 6.8 in 12-15 knots when the water was much flatter in race 6, very fast. We used the blue VMG spinnaker and it was very, very fast… up to 8kts (we used it in 10kts in race 1 too as it was very bumpy) and used the radial runner for all the other races.”
