The 7th Annual Newport Bucket Regatta was held July 17-19, 2009. The 125 foot Perini Navi P2, recently named the Sailing Yacht of the Year by the International Superyacht Society, was the Overall Winner of the 2009 Newport Bucket Regatta. P2 won Les Gazelles des Mers (Racing Division), while Summer Wind, a 100 foot Alden, won Les Grandes Dames des Mers (Cruising Division).

The owner of P2 (Perseus 2) first conceived of P2 back in the 2004 St. Barth’s Bucket, when racing his prior Perini Navi Superyacht Perseus and was passed by the 147-foot carbon-fiber Visione. The ball was set in motion to build a smaller, faster, and more modern boat that would land him on the podium. Perini Navi successfully fulfilled expectations, leading to P2 winning the 2009 Newport Bucket Regatta.

At the Boat International's World Superyacht Awards 2009, the 38m P2 triumphantly scooped up 3 Awards: Sailing Yacht of the Year, Best Exterior Styling and Best Sailing Yacht in 30m to 44m size range.

On May 16, 2009 in London, The World Superyacht Awards took place at Guildhall in front of over 500 guests. This was the 4th Annual World Superyacht Awards to celebrate excellence in the design and build of superyachts and in doing so recognize the talents of the builders, naval architects and yacht designers who create the most outstanding yachts delivered between January 1st and the 31st of December 2008. The awards is also a testament to the dedication and passion of the yacht owners and enthusiasts who make the luxury yacht industry possible.
