Doyle
Sails is currently designing and developing sails for the Star
boat. Doyle One Design Team, Jud Smith and Garth
Reynolds, have pursued a different concept using the latest
sail design technology. Over the past twelve months they
have generated lighter, low-drag shapes. We started
with the conventional crosscut panel layout to develop and
refine the 3-dimensional shape of the mainsail. We chose
to pursue a mainsail optimized for light to medium wind conditions
that most of us race in. We are also developing another higher
twist mainsail for 10-25 knots. Mark Mendelblatt and crew Mark
Strube sailed the 2008 Star World's with the Doyle CM-5 and
finished 7th overall and was the top US boat. Jud Smith
and Terry Yuill, sailing in their second Star regatta together,
placed 29th out of 104 boats.

CM-5:
Crosscut Mainsail
|
|
The CM-5
mainsail is a conventional Star mainsail designed with varying
cloth weights to resolve the primary and secondary loading in
the sail. The CM-5 is a powerful lower twist design that
likes to be sheeted hard for better pointing with out
stalling. The CM-5 is optimized for 0-15 knots and
performed very well in the Miami conditions.

J-2L:
Light Jib
|
|
The J-2L Jib is
a conventional crosscut jib utilizing Dimension Polyant 180
HTP.. The J-2L Jib is best for wind speeds and sea states
under 16 knots. The standard zipper luff is full length
for the long headstay. If you would like a jib with a
shorter zipper to accommodate an above deck headstay
attachment just let us know.

J-3H:
Heavy Jib
|
|
The J-3H Jib is
a flatter version of the J-2L utilizing Dimension Polyant 240
HTP.
The J-3H Jib is optimized for wind speeds over 12 knots and
features flatter sections and straighter exits. The
standard zipper luff is full length for the long headstay.
If you would like a jib with a shorter zipper to accommodate
an above deck headstay attachment just let us know.
