What is
STRATIS?
STRATIS is the result of intensive in-house research and
development - combining DOYLE's world-leading sail design
with innovative engineering and advanced materials
technology. Shape
dynamics design, load path mapping, testing and
manufacture are all undertaken in-house by DOYLE in a
literally seamless operation. STRATIS custom designed,
fiber aligned sail technology is now available to all
sailors, not just Grand Prix racers.
The
STRATIS Advantage
Combining
world-leading design with innovative engineering and
materials technology, STRATIS sail laminates are custom
designed and manufactured to the individual specifications
of each sail.
STRATIS
laminates are stronger, hold their shape better, with much
less stretch and are significantly lighter than
conventional panel sails.
Uniquely
designed in 3 dimensions to maintain optimum flying shape
STRATIS' unique 3 dimensional fiber mapping process
ensures precise fiber laying and laminating to maintain
optimum flying shape - during manufacture and under
sail.
Advances
over conventional sails
Sails
fabricated in the conventional method, by cutting and
placing many separate panels, can only approximate the
different load paths of a sail. STRATIS fiber-aligned
sails have fibers mapped directly along all load paths.
Every fiber is load-bearing, making a stronger, lighter
and more durable sail.
Easier
to trim
DOYLE's
3-dimensional fiber-mapping program aligns STRATIS fibers
according to wind and stress loads.
Mildew
and UV degradation virtually eliminated
Anti-microbial
coatings plus Ti02 coatings over all fibers and taffetas
give STRATIS laminates exceptional protection.
Distortion-free
reef dynamics
Advanced
technology enables full load path fiber layouts to be
mapped to each reef point - on both mainsails and furling
headsails. The increased stability of the fiber-aligned
membrane shakes out to a smooth, distortion-free sail,
even after being reefed for long periods.
Lighter
The unique
pre-preg
fiber and film lamination process precisely controls the
amount of adhesive in each STRATIS sails.
As a result, for the same amount of yarn STRATIS
sails are lighter.
