ABOUT THIS LOFT
Doyle Long Island is Long Island's best equipped sail loft featuring a modern, 5,000 square foot sail loft conveniently located on Route 110 in Huntington Station, just south of the railroad station. We make regular service visits to NYC and the eastern end of Long Island. We offer quick, professional sail repair, canvas work, furlers, mainsail handling systems, running rigging and hardware for all size boats. If is has something to do with sailboat or sailing, we can help you out.
Apart from being an excellent grinder, our Service Manager Dean Johns has 15 years of experience to date. Dean can assess your sails with you on the spot and provide accurate repair quotes.

ABOUT THE OWNER
Mark began sailmaking at Hard Sails of Islip, NY in 1978. In 1980 he was hired by Shore Sails of Newport, RI. There Mark optimized Shore’s manufacturing techniques, wrote Shore’s Production Detail Manual and worked for Shore Sails International as their traveling sailmaking technician. As new lofts joined the Shore Sails system, Mark was sent to instruct them in Shore’s manufacturing techniques. In 1987 he purchased “Shore Sails Huntington” from Dick Curry and Gary Jobson. Mark is the loft’s is general manager. He’s is responsible for sales,boat measurement, preliminary sail design work, sail construction detailing and off-location service work. Mark is a lifelong sailor. He’s competed in 10 Newport to Bermuda Races, 3 Bermuda 1-2’s and numerous National and North American Championships with impressive results.
Dean Johns - Loft Manager & Sailmaker
Dean began working for Mark, part-time, while he was a high school student in 1988. With 30 years experience, he is Mark’s right-hand sailmaker. He’s loyal, dependable, physically strong and a true craftsman. Dean is DLI’s floor manager and one of the few truly superb sailmakers remaining on this continent.
Nick Nilsen - Sales & Service
Nick is a lifelong sailor. His childhood hobbies were line-work, rigging and tinkering with sails. Nick has been with DLI for 9 years. He’s technically minded and creative. Nick is Mark’s protégé. He is responsible for sales, boat measurement, scheduling, preliminary sail design work and off-location rigging and service work. Nick is also an excellent sailmaker.
