ABOUT THIS LOFT

Doyle Sails Galway, formerly known as West Sails, is the largest sailmaking facility in Ireland with an impressive floor area of 450 sqm. The busy loft which will offer services in sail manufacturing, sail repair, covers and marine trimming. They handle sails for all yacht sizes from dinghies, cruisers, racers, windsurfers, kite surfers and even windmill sails.

The loft is operated by Managing Director Donal Small and Loft Director Yannick Lemonnier and Sales Consultant Evan O'Connor.

Donal Small
has spent many years working within the yachting industry from his early start in boatyards to captaining large superyachts and racing professionally. Donal's offshore sailing achievements include Volvo Round Ireland Yacht Race, Fastnet Race, Middle Sea Race, Caribbean 600, plus several local Irish and UK offshore races. He has also completed transatlantic and transpacific crossings during his time as a superyacht captain. Apart from offshore sailing, Donal has managed a number of campaigns and has coached the Irish Paralympic Sailing team for London 2012 and also was involved with the British Paralympic sailing team for Rio 2016.

Yannick Lemonnier
's experience includes working with leading French sailmaker Incidence Sails where he trained in the most modern high-tech CAD based systems and software. Yannick understands sail design and has the experience and expertise to advise you on all of your needs. Yannick has sailed over 75,000 nautical miles and has competed in five Solitaire du Figaro, 2 transatlantic AG2R's, winner of two French National Student Match-racing championships, winner of two Round Ireland Race setting a double handed record in 2004. Yannick has competed in Tour Voile, Spi Ouest France, Cowes Week and Fastnet Races. Yannick sails regularly on a Mini Transat 6.5, an International Moth and a catamaran. Yannick’s passion is sailing and he recognises the skills necessary to sail at a competitive level. He understands the importance of using the very best materials and resources available to him.

Evan O'Connor
is a 25-year-old sailor from Dublin, Ireland with a background in coaching and racing. Having studied Nautical science in the National Maritime College of Ireland (NMCI) and moving from dinghies to keelboats over 10 years ago he has competed extensively in inshore and offshore racing both domestically and internationally on everything from sb20s to j109s and Swans. In the last few years he has been working full time in the industry as a charter skipper in Croatia, delivery skipper for the likes of Joan Mulloy and also assisted Gregor Mcguckin before the start of his Golden Globe campaign while also Coaching and Instructing in Dublin.

FACILITIES

The facility is located in the Galway Docks only a 2 hour drive from Dublin and 2.5 hours from Cork. Pick-up and delivery locations include Dublin, Cork and Belfast. The loft will be managed by West Sails former owner and operator and accomplished sailor Yannick Lemonnier.

LATEST PROJECTS

Some of their most recent projects include VOR 70 Green Dragon, MOD 70 & Multi 50 sail repairs during Route des Prince and overnight servicing of 17 x sails during Figaro stopover.
