PRODUCT END OF LIFE

What happens to a sail at the end of its life has been a problem Doyle Sails has been working to solve for many years. However, finding an economically and sustainably sound solution for the millions of square meters of high-performance sails neatly stored all over the world is easier said than done.  Until now

END OF LIFE OF A LAMINATED PRODUCT

Our manufactured products are built to withstand the elements and the wear of a high performance race yacht – depending on its purpose. Our clients don’t want to be delivered a sail that breaks down, performance is priority but they want to see we are doing our bit to protect our playground – the ocean and the wider world. The sails are not made to break down and are composite products of carbon, resins and plastic. This is a significant environmental aspect that we are aware of in our business. These composite products are laminated which makes them impossible to recycle currently.

Currently we are involving ourselves in a couple of projects, including turning old sails into crew bags for teams to reuse as well as on sell with Live Ocean Foundation – an ocean preservation charity. This is alongside partnering with Sail2Shelter, a US organisation providing shelter for those displaced from their home across the globe whenever it’s from climate change or war.
