The 2019 Star World Championship hosted by Yacht Club Costa Smeralda kicked off on the 17th of June with 63 teams at the start line in the beautiful Porto Cervo, Italy. Doyle Star customers put on a spectacular performance this year with wins in the top spots, including 1st, 2nd* and 3rd* overall.
Mateusz Kusznierewicz and Bruno Prada came out on top, winning the Star World Championship title. Kusznierewicz was Star Class World Champion in 2008 so this is his second title while Bruno Prada celebrates his record fifth Star Worlds tile.
Mateusz Kusznierewicz comments on the win,
"We are really happy to have won this Championship, it's almost incredible when I think that this is the first time I have raced with Bruno (Prada). Our aim was to give it our all and never give up and that's what we did. From start to finish, even when we were behind in the fleet we always managed to recover and finish well. We knew that every result counted and this is a sweet taste of success for us."
Augie Diaz and Henry Boening placed second, with Diaz also receiving the award for Star Class Grand Master, a recognition for Star sailors over 60. The team carried a partial inventory using a Doyle Main through out the regatta and a Doyle Jib in two races.
Eivind Melleby and Joshua Revkin had a great week of results, finishing third in the last day's race and third overall. The team also had a partial inventory, using a Doyle Jib through out the event.
Well done to all our customers that participated this year!
