Tschüss 2 Wins the 2025 Transatlantic Race

Doyle Sails is proud to congratulate Tschüss 2 on a commanding victory in the 2025 Transatlantic Race. The team have claimed line honours in the West to East Transatlantic Race 2025 in an elapsed time of 07 Day 15 Hrs 29 Mins and 10 Secs.

Skippered and owned by Christian Zugel, the VOR70 yacht led the fleet from the start line off the East Coast of the United States to the finish off the United Kingdom, completing one of offshore sailing’s most storied and gruelling passages in spectacular form.

Organized by the New York Yacht Club and the Royal Ocean Racing Club, with support from the Royal Yacht Squadron and the Storm Trysail Club, the Transatlantic Race is a true test of endurance, seamanship, and performance.
The west-to-east crossing of the North Atlantic is renowned for its unpredictable weather patterns, ranging from fog and gales to shifting pressure systems in turn demanding peak performance from both crew and equipment.

Tschüss  2’s victory is not only a testament to a world-class team onboard  but also to the precision, durability, and performance of Doyle Sails.  From start to finish, the boat maintained speed and efficiency in constantly changing conditions, proving once again that Doyle technology is made to excel under pressure.

Christian Zugel may be relatively new to offshore racing, but his recent achievements with Tschüss 2 are nothing short of astounding. Since July 2024 Tschüss 2 has won four major offshore races overall under IRC and logged 22,000 nautical miles in the process. Tschüss 2 has been the overall winner for the 2024 Roschier Baltic Sea Race, the 2025 RORC Transatlantic Race, RORC Caribbean 600 and looks untouchable for the West to East Transatlantic Race.

“This is a dream result for an amazing team,” said Christian Zugel. “We pushed hard every mile of the way, and our predominately Doyle Sails inventory performed well across the range of conditions the Atlantic threw at us. We’re incredibly proud to bring this win home.”

Doyle Sails has long stood at the forefront of performance sailmaking, partnering with ambitious programs like Tschüss 2 to push boundaries and achieve success at the highest levels of offshore racing.

“This result is exactly why we do what we do,” said Stefano Nava, Doyle Sails Designer. “Working closely with the Tschüss 2 team, we tailored a sail inventory that balances power, durability, and reliability. The entire Doyle team is proud to see our sails deliver a result like this on one of offshore sailing’s most iconic stages.”

Stu Bannatyne, four-time Volvo Ocean Race winner and Doyle’s Offshore and Grand Prix expert, added: “A transatlantic race like this one is the ultimate test of offshore gear. The consistency and speed of Tschüss 2 throughout the race speaks volumes about the quality of their preparation. Working with the team and hel[and their sails. It’s a fantastic achievement by Christian and his team.”

“Life onboard Tschüss was intense; zero visibility, spray flying, pitch black and trimming for VMG non-stop. Our slick four-group watch system kept things tight, and the crew clicked instantly despite the conditions. It was wild at times, but the camaraderie, professionalism, and even a bit of mid-ocean ceviche mde it unforgettable.” Says Nin O’Leary, Doyle Sails Ireland Owner & Tschüss 2 Trimmer/Helmsman

Doyle Sails are honored to have been a part of this remarkable campaign and extend our congratulations to Christian Zugel and the entire Tschüss 2 team on their well-earned victory.
