DOYLE SAILS POWER PODIUM AT ETCHELLS NEW ENGLAND CHAMPIONSHIPS

The Boston Yacht Club in Marblehead, Massachusetts hosted the 2025 Etchells New England Championship this past weekend, with racing shortened to two days after a Nor’easter swept through, a classic October scene for New England sailors.
Doyle-powered teams once again proved their strength on the water, claiming the full podium in the Corinthian fleet and first and second overall in the Open fleet.

Congratulations to local expert Jud Smith and his crew Steve Girling and Lars Osell aboard Fast Mermaid (1111), who claimed the overall victory.
Jud Smith is regarded as one of the finest One Design sailmakers in the world, heading up Doyle Sails’ world-renowned One Design division. Born and raised in Marblehead, Jud has over ten World Championship titles to his name, including the 2006 Etchells World Championship, IOD World Championship, and two Mumm 30 World Championships. In addition to his impressive One Design achievements, Jud was the mainsail trimmer on Stars & Stripes during Dennis Conner’s 1995 America’s Cup campaign and has twice been named Rolex Yachtsman of the Year (2006, 2018). With over 40 years of sailmaking experience, Jud continues to set the standard in performance and craftsmanship.

Chris Lanza’s Vertigo II, with Ezra Culver and Tomas Hornos, finished second overall. Hornos, also a Doyle expert based in Marblehead, has enjoyed a strong season across multiple One Design classes while supporting Doyle customers nationally.
In fifth place overall was Buddy Cribb’s Victory (1373), sailing with Eamonn Delissor and Jonathan Gleason.

All of these top-performing teams were powered by Doyle One Design’s M5R radial main and LMSL 3P2 jib featuring Doyle’s latest Structured Luff technology, paired with the AIRX radial VMG spinnaker.

In the Corinthian Division, competition was fierce with closely contested racing across the fleet. All Doyle-powered Corinthian teams chose Doyle’s AP-2 main and LMSL 3P2 Structured Luff jib for optimal all-round performance.
Congratulations to Hugh “Cookie” Greville and his crew aboard Mustapha Dance — Tobias Looser and Ryan White— for winning the Corinthian title.
Peter Dowd’s Team Bob, with Daan Goedkoop and Tom Dailey, finished second Corinthian and ninth overall, while Jim DaSilva’s Team Jester, sailing with Phill Cordeiro and Luke Buxton, rounded out the Corinthian podium.
