The Doyle Sails Moth Team Riders descended on Lake Garda, Italy for the World Championships in August, with some of the biggest names choosing Doyle Sails. With great effort going into innovation and development in the last twelve months, more and more frequently we are seeing these elite athletes choosing to work with Doyle Sails, in one of the most competitive fleets in the world.
For over two years, Kyle Langford has collaborated with Luke Molloy from Doyle Sails Palma to create a range of Moth sails suitable for everyone, Kyle brings a wealth of experience from a range of high performance, Grand Prix sailing campaigns including the Sail GP league, where he holds the position of Wing Trimmer for the Australian SailGP Team, America’s Cup, Maxi Race Yachts including Comanche and onboard Team Brunel in the last Volvo Ocean Race.
The internationally renowned Doyle Sails design team works closely with incredible sailors, all over the world who focus on the finesse required for elite one design sailing. This has allowed a beautifully curated sail straight out of the bag.
Doyle Sails has seen the rise in sailors using our Doyle Stratis Moth sails, including fellow SailGP sailors Phil Robertson, Diego Botin, Nina Curtis, David Gilmour and Tom Johnson, alongside Olympic sailors Tara Pacheco, Simen Kurtbay
Doyle Sails Team Rider Phil Robertson had a great event in Malcesine, cracking into podium finishes during a number of races, and finishing in 6th place overall. Phil, is well in tune with the Doyle Sails Stratis product with two seasons with the Spanish SailGP team as skipper.
“I am fairly new to the Moth class but was straight on pace thanks to my Doyle sail. I raced with the new Stratis AP and discovered some incredible downwind pace which launched me into some top three finishes. I used one sail for the whole range of conditions which is testament to the adaptability of the Stratis design and Structured Luff technology ” says Robertson.
Pre-training for Nina Curtis’ first Moth World Championships consisted of 7 training sessions in very quick succession, a borrowed boat and some good-natured teammates. The self proclaimed “battler” ended the regatta with some excellent crashes, a learning curve like no other and overall was very happy with first Moth event!
This event was a record breaking event with 12 female sailors on the race course, more than any other Moth World Championships prior. In a heavily male dominated fleet, it is great to see an emerging female fleet of sailors.
Doyle Sails Team rider Kyle Langford has been an incredible asset to the Doyle design process and these type of partnerships are what make Doyle Sails unique, a win-win for both sides. Langford also had top three finishes throughout qualifying and finals, with a race win.

With more than 3kg less weight in the sail, a Doyle Moth sail is the ultimate performance advantage. When a fully rigged Moth weighs between 35 – 38 kg fully rigged, this is a big gain for the overall weight of the yacht. Less weight = more speed.
