DOYLE SAILS POWERS ABRACADABRA IN RETURN TO ADMIRALS CUP WITH NEW YORK YACHT CLUB

The iconic Admirals Cup returns to the international stage in 2025, and among the elite competitors is Abracadabra, a high-performance Ker 43 proudly representing the New York Yacht Club. With a pedigree team, cutting-edge sail technology, and a renewed spirit of competition, Abracadabra is poised to be a standout entry—and she’s powered by Doyle Sails.

Owned by Donald Thinschmidt Jr., with long-time support from his father Donald Thinschmidt Sr., Abracadabra represents a multigenerational passion for high-performance offshore racing. The Thinschmidt family has invested significantly in the sport, and this Admirals Cup campaign is a reflection of commitment to excellence and American sailing heritage.

At the core of the Abracadabra campaign is well-known sailor and sailmaker Brad Boston, who plays a dual role as both a key crew member and sail programme coordinator through Doyle Sails. Boston, based at Doyle Sails Ontario, is a  world champion and multi class North American champion. He is one of North America’s most respected figures in one-design and offshore performance sailing. His technical knowledge and hands-on experience ensure Abracadabra is rigged for precision and speed across all conditions expected on the Solent.

“We’ve worked closely with the team on a complete Doyle inventory, including Structured Luff headsails and a custom high-performance main designed to maximise the rating under IRC,” says Boston. “This is a top-level program, and every sail has been refined for reliability, performance, and tactical flexibility. I’m proud to be a part of it.”

Abracadabra, with a seasoned crew and grand-prix pedigree, was selected by the New York Yacht Club for her proven offshore capabilities. Competing as part of the U.S. team in the two-boat entry format, she reflects the next generation of IRC racing—technologically advanced, collaborative in design, and relentless on the course.

The 2025 Admirals Cup marks the revival of a legendary contest that once defined international team sailing. This year’s edition brings together top national teams in a multi-boat format, blending inshore and offshore racing in one of the sport’s most competitive and historic arenas.

Doyle Sails’ presence in the Admirals Cup continues to grow, with multiple yachts across different teams utilizing its latest sail technology, including Structured Luff sails, Hybrid membranes, and Cableless Code sails, which offer superior load management and optimized shape across a wide wind range.

As the action gets underway off Cowes, all eyes will be on Abracadabra and the NYYC team as they chase national pride and top-tier performance at the highest level of offshore sailing.
