It was a fantastic weekend of representation for Doyle Sails, with Justin Ferris onboard Beau Ideal, Shane Guanaria aboard Zen, Matt Pearce sailing with Koa, and Garth Bickford on Smuggler. Lawson Shaw also made the trip up from Doyle Sails Melbourne to be part of the weekend onboard Anarchy.
The weather conditions on Saturday were challenging and ultimately limited racing, but Sunday made up for it with three quality races.

In the lead-up, the Doyle Sails Sydney loft had been flat out, delivering new sails for the 52’s MatadorSmuggler, and Koa, along with a new jib and spinnaker for Revolver. The result was a fleet looking sharp and performing even better for the start of the series.

“Time on the water in the weeks prior also proved valuable, with several afternoons spent alongside Matador and Koa working through rig setups and refining sail inventories to ensure everything was dialled in for racing.” Says Shane of Doyle Sails Sydney “It was also great to have Gordon and the team on Zen return to the local fleet after a year campaigning in Europe, with the highlights being Admirals Cup and Middle Sea Race.”

The results on the water reflected the preparation, Doyle-powered boats showed a clear speed edge across the fleet.

“Sydney really turn on the weather for the 1st act of the Pallas Capital Gold Cup series. Great to see so many Doyle-powered boats competing and featuring in the results.” Says Justin Ferris “I had the pleasure of sailing on Beau Ideal in the very competitive super 40 fleet and battled with our mates on Back 2 Black and Edge, nothing between the 3 boats all weekend.”

Shane and the Doyle Sails Sydney loft are planning a strong activation for Port Stephens, focused on supporting both TP52 and Super 40 teams.
Plans include a dedicated Thursday coaching session, bringing in a coach to work with teams using video analysis and on-water feedback. Additional photo and video content will be captured to showcase setups and performance insights.
Doyle Sails is thrilled to host a Saturday afternoon BBQ and drinks for the 52 and Super 40 fleets, creating an opportunity to bring teams together shoreside.  A great mix of performance, support, and a bit of fun to round out the weekend!
