Dario began sailing at the age of 5 and quickly became passionate about the sport. He competed in Optimists and Laser ILCA6s at European and World Championship levels, achieving impressive results including a 2nd place at the Opti Euro Championship, a 10th place at the ILCA6 European Championship, and multiple national-level victories in ILCA6. His extensive sailing experience now spans boats ranging from 35 to 65 feet, covering various types of racing from windward-leeward courses to coastal and offshore events. This broad experience not only enhances his sailing credentials but also informs his work as a designer, offering clients a well-rounded perspective.
After earning a degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering in Genoa, Italy, Dario travelled the world sailing and spent several years in New Zealand. There, he worked with the University of Auckland’s Yacht Research Unit, studying sail aerodynamics in a renowned wind tunnel and completing his PhD. His role involved comparing real sail aerodynamics with numerical simulations to validate dynamic load fluctuations.
Returning home, Dario was drawn to the culture, innovative spirit, and design excellence of Doyle Sails. Now based in Palma, he serves as both a Designer and Project Manager, focusing on superyacht projects. His dual role involves not only contributing to the local team but also collaborating with Doyle Sails’ global network of designers.
Dario’s attraction to Doyle Sails lies in the opportunity to be part of an international network that fosters knowledge sharing and tackles some of the world’s most ambitious projects. This aligns with Doyle Sails’ belief that the true value of a company lies in its people. While factors like materials, technology, and brand reputation are important, Doyle Sails emphasizes the impact of individual expertise and the ability to understand and meet the specific needs of each boat and owner.
In addition to his professional work, Dario continues to expand his sailing skills, currently exploring kitesurfing and foil boarding.
