Fabric technology

The cloth is where every sail begins. We specify from a full range of laminates, woven polyesters, composites and spinnaker cloths, and the right one depends on your boat, your budget and the conditions you sail in.

Where to start

Matched to how you sail.

If you already know the boat and the programme, this narrows it quickly.

Club racing
Black X-Tech, FLEX Sport

Warp oriented and crosscut laminates for boats up to forty-two feet, where the budget is real and the racing is serious.

Cruising
DCX Laminate, Square Dacron

Low stretch and easy handling, with surfaces that stand up to furling, UV and a long season away from a loft.

Superyacht
Doyle DVXC

Carbon and Vectran under an opaque composite surface, for the loads a fifty to eighty foot yacht and above will generate.

Downwind
Nylite, Maxilite, Superkote, Superlite

Spinnaker cloths chosen by weight and luff length, combined where needed to hit the right strength-to-weight ratio.

Beyond the cloth

Fabric is one half of the answer.

Cloth decides what a sail is made of. How the load runs through it is a separate question, and that is where STRATIS, HYBRID and Structured Luff come in.

For most programmes we specify both together: the right fabric, engineered with the right load paths for your rig.
