A weekend away on the super-stylish pocket cruiser Pink Gin Verde

11 November 2021• Written by Laura Nicholls for Baltic Yachts

When waking up in balmy St. Tropez and finding that the water is flat, calm and inviting, with a gentle breeze building, there is no better way to break the mirror-like surface than with the brand-new Café Racer from Baltic Yachts. Here, we get a feel of what a day’s sailing aboard the 20.73-metre stylish pocket cruiser is like…

Since being delivered to her owner in late summer, the first unit of the groundbreaking new yacht range has been busy cruising in the sun kissed French Riviera. As her name suggests, Pink Gin Verde is a Baltic 68 Café Racer equipped with an abundance of green credentials – all of which were seen in action for the first time during the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup in Porto Cervo in September 2021.

Not only does her Javier Jaudenes naval architecture allow her to excel on the racecourse, but it also gives her owner the freedom to handle her shorthanded at sea. Requiring just two operatives, Pink Gin Verde and her smart design are contrived to be extremely easy to handle thanks to the simple sail plan, electric propulsion system and an electric bow thruster. As elements that are all uncomplicated to operate, a decision to spend the day sailing can be as spontaneous as the owner likes.https://player.vimeo.com/video/618734901?h=2fb1fdafeb&title=0&byline=0&portrait=0

On a day that the Café Racer is lying in the harbour, all that is needed prior to setting off is the quick unplugging of her shore power connection from the dock. While on the move under sail, twin free-wheeling props and two ultra-slim solar panels will help keep the power going. This, along with the option to use her two compact, lightweight 15kW electric motors driving through the twin saildrives means that there are no emissions, no fossil fuels burned and no noise pollution.

Time at sea is made as comfortable as possible for all those on board the Café Racer. Largely due to her super-modern Jens Palus inspired interior layout further developed by Design Unlimited on Pink Gin Verde, guests will find that their enjoyment is heightened by the yacht’s well-thought-out features such as her sustainable non-slip cork decks and roomy interior spaces that are easy to navigate while underway. Once inside, it is clear that the Café Racer is a yacht with a performance edge and a smart but stylish look enhanced by sustainably-sourced flax, linen and leather.

With an interior layout involving a saloon, a large master cabin with a bathroom, dinette and galley, and a second smaller stateroom – the deck plan outside is dominated by the spacious cockpit and its ice-white rectangular seats. Surrounding two fixed tables, this space fits seamlessly into the outdoor design and can be used for everything from al fresco dinners to solidarity sunbathing sessions.

Boasting many notable elements, the new yacht’s main ambition is to serve as a stylish, eco powerhouse that can be operated effortlessly. Here to disrupt the pocket superyacht sector, owners of the limited number of Café Racer hulls set to be produced will no doubt be thrilled with the newfound levels of speed, status and attitude.https://player.vimeo.com/video/618014080?h=3485c87c4d&title=0&byline=0&portrait=0
