Doyle partners with the iconic J Class

Doyle Sails is excited to announce that it has been confirmed as an official Partner of the J Class Association, offering expert support and experience to the prestigious fleet ahead of the 2023 sailing season.

Doyle Sails strives to deliver success through high-performance, high-quality, custom sails that continue to redefine the boundaries of sailmaking technology and innovation; whilst connecting sailors to inspire, support and encourage sailing.

With Superyacht lofts in Palma, the Solent, Newport, Italy and Auckland, Doyle Sails is set to deliver the world-renowned technology across multiple venues and regattas. As a premier sailmaker that has regularly changed the landscape of sailing, sailmaking and sail trim with the revolutionary Cableless and Structured Luff technology, the opportunities of lighter, faster, stronger sails on offer to the J Class fleet are second to none.

The J Class is rooted in the world’s oldest sporting event, the America’s Cup.

In 1929, Sir Thomas Lipton commissioned the build of the first J Class yacht, which started a new era in racing, before the Universal Rule came into effect in 1930.

Today, nine J Class yachts are currently active, including three original surviving J’s – Velsheda, Shamrock and Endeavour – and six replicas that have been built since 2003; Ranger, Rainbow, Hanuman, Lionheart, Topaz and Svea. The J Class Association was founded to protect the interests of the Class, present and future. Its objective is to keep the J Class fleet and races alive and to encourage new build yachts (replica builds from original plans) to join the Class.

As momentum builds towards 2024 and the J Class World Championship during the 37th America’s Cup in Barcelona, an annual calendar of racing is in place for the class. In 2023, J Class yachts will compete at The Superyacht Cup Palma (21-24 June), Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup (3-9 September) and Ibiza Joy Sail (28-31 October).
