Will Alloway wins with new Doyle Sails Structured luff 5.5m sails at the Yacht Club Spiez in Switzerland
Will Alloway from Doyle Sails Solent has been working closely with Richard Bouzaid, head of design for Doyle Sails, to produce world class 5.5m Strutrued Luff sails along with new downwind sails designed by Andrew Lechte. Straight out of the bag this weekend they proved to their hard work had paid off at the 5.5 Metre Swiss Championship . Alloway sailing on Craig Symonette’s “Ali-Baba” along with Flavio Marazzi won the Swiss Championship sailed in light breeze and some unwelcome thunderstorms on the Spiez harbour.
Team “Ali-Baba” were back on out the water the next day to battle out ECO Challenge at Yacht Club Spiez, they came second to Mateusz Kusznierewicz, Przemysław Gacek and Simon Fry, both teams sporting their new sails.
“The new sails were great for the regatta’s in Spiez with pretty light conditions, but we were able to get away from the pack well.” Alloway reported
The 5.5m class sees constant development thanks to advancing rules and regulations and high-performance sailors working with state of the art boats. At the same time, the class formula has allowed a wide range of boat ages to compete effectively together through international regattas.
