Doyle’s Willem Van Waay shortlisted for 2019 Rolex Yachtsman of the year

Doyle Sails’ very own sales representative Willem Van Waay has been shortlisted for the prestigious 2019 Rolex Yachtsman & Yachtswoman of the year

US Sailing annually honours the highest performing sailors in this prestigious annual roll call of outstanding on water performances. 

Willem Van Waay hails from Coronado, California and is an invaluable asset to our One Design North American loft. Van Waay has been the tactician and key member of several champion teams over the last year, showcasing his wide skill set during the J/24 World Championship in Miami with skipper Keith Whittemore aboard Furio. Van Waay and crew were victorious in the fleet of 79 to claim the first-place prize by 16 points through 10 races and posted six top five finishes. The stacked fleet featured five former J/24 World Champions.

Additional first place finishes where Willem served as tactician include first place at the J24 Kiel Race Week, J70 Midwinters, Rolex Big Boat Series, San Diego NOOD Regatta, Marblehead NOOD Regatta, Long Beach Race Week, New England Championship/Newport Regatta – J70, and Cedar Point Regatta – J70.

We are pleased to support Willem who, through his mastery of tactical sailing, represents a unique pathway to the top of the sport. Willem has mastered his craft with dedicated focus on precision and performance at the highest level.

Doyle’s well recognized One Design team in Salem is headed up by Jud Smith, 2006 and 2018 Rolex Yachtsman of the Year.
