MATADOR CLAIM ACT 1 of Pallas Capital Gold Cup

Doyle-powered Matador have kicked off the Australian 52 Racing circuit with an overall win at the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia event, the first in the Pallas Capital Gold Cup. David Doherty’s team came out on top of the 10 boat fleet, while also claiming 1st in IRC as well.

Only 6 points separated the top six boats racing under the TPR Rule, it was close racing with battles contested throughout the fleet and a true test of boat handling and clean manoeuvres.

“It has come so far, just from the three years I have been involved. And a boat that’s last in one race might be third in the next one, and it’s just really compressed the field, it’s really good”, said Doherty of the TPR racing.

On Saturday’s the event opening race had the ten-strong fleet head south from the Clarke Island start/finish line in Sydney Harbour, to Port Hacking and return for a 36 nautical mile passage race.
While Sunday was two windward-leeward course racing inside Sydney Harbour in lighter conditions.

Doyle-powered Zen was back in the water after a major refit and had Justin Ferris of Doyle International onboard, “Great to see such an active class of 52’s, Well done to David and the Matador crew.” says Ferris

Shane from Doyle Sails Sydney was thrilled to see the strength in the Sydney 52 fleet, with almost half of the Sydney fleet now choosing Doyle.
