MATADOR CLAIMS 2023 AUSTRALIAN TP52 GOLD CUP Series

With light winds being forecast for the penultimate day of Act 4 of the Pallas Capital TP52 Gold Cup held at the Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club on Sydney’s Pittwater, the Race Committee made the decision to hold the event in-shore on Towler’s Bay.

Five boats competed in the light conditions over the weekend, the RPAYC race management ensured they got four races on day 1 leaving only 2 races for the final day when the wind was forecast to drop out.

Sebastian Bohm and his crew on “Smuggler” won the regatta by the narrowest of margins and David Doherty’s “Matador” crew who had won the previous 3 Acts rounded out the podium results in 3rd place. Both teams utilise the Doyle Sails Stratis and have the revolutionary Structured Luff technology throughout their headsails suites.

Matador was crowned the overall series winner in both TPR & IRC at the post-racing awards, and bragging rights for the team as they also won last year’s series.

The Australia 52 fleet now looks toward Hamilton Island Race Week, before switching to some passage and coastal racing series.
