Burnsco 2021 Sunburst National title came down to the wire.

The Burnsco 2021 Sunburst National Championships title came down to the wire between two Auckland based, Wakatere crews at Pleasant Point Yacht Club in Christchurch earlier this month. Two wins on the final day sealed the deal for father and son duo Cam & Andrew Brown finishing just 2 points ahead after 8 races from father and son Liam & Andy Richards, both with complete Doyle Sails inventories.

The top two boats continued to challenge each other during the entire regatta, and were officially ‘tied’ in Race 7, with the final result being decided on who finished first in the final Race 8.

Both Cam and Liam skipper their boats with their fathers onboard as crew, having to deliver results in a very competitive fleet.

The result was Andrew’s ninth Sunburst National Championship title for Andrew Brown, 7th sailing with his son Cam, but a special title as the first with Cam as skipper.

Originally from Christchurch, Andrew Brown is the holder of 13 national titles in dinghy racing, and represented New Zealand at the 2004 Olympics in the International 470 Class. He currently undertakes contract coaching for the Yachting New Zealand’s NZL Sailing Team, as well as coaching locally and internationally and running local yacht club programmes in Auckland as well as being part of a long term commitment by Doyle Sails to the One Design market.
