Doyle powered J70’s take all three podium spots at Pre Worlds

Forty-four teams tuned up at the Pre-World Championship over the weekend with breeze in the high teens on day one and slightly softer conditions on day two.

Bruce Golison won with his crew of Steve Hunt, Erik Shampain and Jeff Reynolds on board “Midlife Crisis” representing the San Diego Yacht Club. The crew managed to finish the 6 race series with a total of 12 points, dropping their worst race a 7th. A fantastic result in the hotly contested event which saw 5 different race winners from 6 races.

“Savasana” owned by Brian Keane with crew of Ron Weed, Bill Hardesty and Alec Anderson took second place and rounding out the podium spots was Peter Duncan on “Relative Obscurity”with Willem Van Waay, Victor Diaz de Leon and Morgan Trubovich.

Doyle powered “Surge” skippered by Ryan Mckillen and his team Lucas Calabrese, John Wallace and Sam Loughborough took 5th place.

The J70 World Championship are to be held August 7 to 15, 2021 at California Yacht Club, with Sixty-two teams from 11 nations are expected to be on the start line. With the class association forced to abandon the 2020 event due to the pandemic, this event is very much a light at the end of the tunnel.
