Holiday, the beloved Herreshoff 28 sailing yacht has endured another long Maine winter and is back afloat for her 75th season. She has been outfitted with a full suite of new sails from Doyle Sails, fitted and supported by Will Hundahl of the Doyle Sails One Design loft in Salem, Massachusetts.
After an extensive off-season refit, Holiday is once again out exploring the islands of Maine’s midcoast and downeast regions, adventuring the way she was built to. The new sails mark a significant milestone for her and she is now fully equipped for her big anniversary season that lies ahead. Her skipper and steward, Luc Milam, has big plans to commemorate the moment and turned to Doyle Sails for canvas that can perform in the hard upwind work an variable conditions in true New England style.
Will Hundahl was the last piece of the puzzle in fitting the sails and Luc has been shown a full Doyle Sails process. From early engagement with the global design team; working with Chris Taylor to ensure that the sail cloth and panel layout were in keeping with the classic style of the yacht, the Doyle Sails team worked closely with Luc throughout the fitting process, ensuring the new sails were optimised for Holiday’s hull and the varied conditions of the Gulf of Maine.

Holiday’s sea trial period is now underway, and early indications confirm the new sails are performing exactly as designed, responsive, efficient in light air, and well matched to a hull that has decades of character built in.
