Highlights of the California offshore circuit include two races to Mexico; The San Diego to Puerto Vallarta in even years and the Newport Beach to Cabo San Lucas in odd years, with the latter starting this week.
The 800 nautical mile course from Newport Beach to Cabo is set to test some of the offshore racing elite as it provides the perfect training race in the lead-up to the Transpac Race, which begins in June.
This year’s race will see Doyle-powered MOD70 Argo, vie for Line Honours, who will have Doyle Sails Solent director and professional sailor Bryan Thompson onboard. Earlier this year, Argo has taken delivery of a new Doyle Stratis J3, Staysail and Gennaker, adding to their already impressive inventory.
Also competing for line honours will be Rio100, owned and skippered by Manouch Moshayedi with Doyle Sails Grand Prix expert and professional sailor Justin Ferris onboard. Justin Ferris, supported by Mike Sanderson and Richard Bouzaid, has played an integral role in the campaign since the yacht was purchased and refitted in Auckland, New Zealand in 2014.
