Fifty-nine teams battled each other and the elements at the 2021 J/70 North American Championship hosted by Annapolis Yacht Club (Maryland USA). Congratulations to all sailors especially Peter Duncan and his crew on Relative Obscurity and Ryan McKillen onboard Surge.
Despite breezy conditions during the registration days, mother nature then turned off the winds, allowing three races to determine the Championship. 2017 J/70 World Champion Peter Duncan on Relative Obscurity made the most of the one day of racing, lodging a 2,3,5 for 10 points and the North Americans’ title. Ryan McKillen’s Surge placed second overall with 13 points, followed by Terry Hutchinson and Jenn Norwood-Wulff on USA419 at 24 points. More than half of the teams competing were either all-amateurs or having just one professional crew.
Victor Diaz de Leon commented ‘J70 North American Champions! Feels great to win a big event. Biggest regatta for me since the pandemic started with 59 boats. To win it with my homies is the cherry on top!.’

ABOUT DOYLE SAILS // As sailors, our obsession with sailing connects us to the water. The water is our playground, a sanctuary where we seek enjoyment, a competitive playing field where we race as comrades; it’s sometimes our home, and always a place that unlocks our sense of adventure wherever that adventure might take us.
Our obsession with sailing takes us to every corner of the world and on board every yacht. We become part of teams, share in the adventures of friends and families, sharing our knowledge and experience with those who have the same passion for sailing as we do. Sailing is in our DNA, where the water unlocks our sense of adventure. We are the custodians of a legacy that has been supporting sailors for close to four decades and while our world changes around us, our commitment to sailors who seek the same enjoyment and adventure as we do, hasn’t.
From our sailors to yours. We are your experts in sailing. Your adventure starts with Doyle.
