Canada Ocean Racing with Shawyer at the helm will compete in the Vendée Globe in 2028, aiming to become the first Canadian to finish this solo, non-stop race around the world. A team striving to build and lead a world-class offshore sailing organisation in Canada, and in doing so, inspire the next generation while creating a strong foundation for the continued development of the sport across the nation.

Canada Ocean Racing has partnered with renowned sailing team Alex Thomson Racing, who have managed British solo sailor Alex Thomson’s five Vendée Globe campaigns over the past 20 years. Well-known and respected solo ocean racing skipper Alex Thomson who famously became the youngest ever skipper to win an around-the-world race when he led a team to win the 1998/99 edition of the mixed-experience Clipper Round the World Race aged 25,  stepped aside from competitive sailing after the 2020 Vendée Globe, and he was clear that going forward he wanted to help another skipper in the IMOCA class. Before his career as a solo sailor, Thomson was a sailing instructor and has pivoted into this role as a mentor for the Canada Ocean Racing Team.
