Doyle Sails powered Sørvind has finished her successful sea trials in Cape Town and is heading on her maiden voyage to the Mediterranean Sea before starting her first cruising and charter season. The newly launched Southern Wind 105m Sørvind showcases their new Doyle Sails, fitted by Superyacht expert, Mario Giattino from Doyle Sails Italy. The Doyle Sails inventory includes Stratis Structured Luff Jibs and Staysails, a Cableless Code Zero, and a Top Down Furling A5.
The SW105 hull number 5 comes from the solid collaboration between Southern Wind, Nauta Design and Farr Yacht Design. A team who Doyle have worked alongside to ensure the client was able to customize the build and match their taste and specific requirements.
“I’m looking for a high-performance bluewater yacht for fast and comfortable sailing”. This is the brief presented by the owner of SW105#05 when approaching SWS for the first time and SØRVIND will tick all of these boxes. A keen sailor in his teenage years this new build is designed to enchance his love of the sea.
Her twin rudder configuration and increased sail area, combined with a telescopic keel (3.65m- 5.6m), provide extra righting moment without compromising the interior volumes or arrangement. Sørvind was constructed with a full carbon hull, deck and bulkheads. Weight control has been a high priority with major savings gained by the selection of a synthetic teak deck, titanium stanchions, pulpits, cleats and fairleads.
All features aimed at the objective of building a 69500 kg yacht that can sail in lighter wind conditions, with a reduced dependency on the engine. At Doyle Sails we are seeing more and more clients wanting their yachts to be sailed more frequently. The ease of use along with the technology developments of Structure Luff in this area is ensuring that captains and owners alike are getting what they require.
