JUD SMITH INDUCTED INTO USA NATIONAL SAILING HALL OF FAME

Congratulations to Doyle Sails’ own Jud Smith on his induction into the National Sailing Hall of Fame Class of 2026.

A true icon of one-design racing, Jud has built an extraordinary career through a relentless pursuit of performance, innovation and excellence. A two-time Rolex Yachtsman of the Year and multiple World Champion across classes including the Etchells and J/70, his influence reaches far beyond the podium through his work as a competitor, coach, sail designer and mentor.

Known for his meticulous preparation, Jud has always embraced learning through experimentation. As he puts it: “You’ve got to keep an open mind and try things and be willing to make errors. I think failure is the mother of invention. I am not afraid to take a chance and find out what works.”

That philosophy has helped shape not only his own remarkable success, but also the countless sailors he has coached and inspired over the years. Despite a lifetime as a professional sailor and sailmaker, Jud has never lost sight of what makes sailing special, spending countless hours racing alongside his wife Cindy and daughters Lindsey and Darby.

Jud’s passion for performance, generosity with his knowledge, and lifelong commitment to the sport have left an enduring mark on sailing. Doyle Sails couldn’t be prouder to see him recognised with this richly deserved honour.

The National Sailing Hall of Fame’s Class of 2026 also includes Eleanor Prentiss Creesy, Gino Joseph Morrelli, Herman Frasch Whiton, Lorna Whittelsey Hibberd, and Mary Male Savage.
